We were selling and moving from our home in Mill Valley back to a second home in Sausalito. Our realtor came in with several suggestions on what we should do to maximize the sale price. She suggested Sal and his company, Altius Construction, and we could not have been more pleased.
Sal sat down with us, listened carefully, shared his thoughts and we came up with a plan that made total sense and within a very doable budget. I found Sal to be honest, dependable and incredibly hard-working. Beyond that, he is an impressive problemsolver who was able to address some complex issues especially when we enlarged one bathroom at the expense of the second one. He met the challenge and the results were amazing! He provided high quality service and workmanship which was all done at a fair price and in a timely way.
The quality of work done was consistently top notch. His crew were professional, reliable, courteous and respectful of my property. Their pride in their work was evident and they tidied up at the end of each workday.

Altius Construction did an incredible job on several different projects for me. I purchased an older Sausalito home built in the 1920's, which came with a number of items that needed repair and upgrade based on my home buyer's inspection report. When I bought the home, I knew I would need to quickly work through the inspection items with an experienced contractor team. Sal and the Altius team came highly recommended from people in town. Their team helped me go through my full inspection report to identify the items that needed immediate attention versus items that could be addressed over time. The initial consultation was incredibly helpful. I really appreciated the honesty and expertise that Sal and his team provided as I planned for the work.
Ultimately Sal and his team helped me identify the work that would be most beneficial to the functioning for my house, resolving the more serious issues noted in my inspection report, and that would add a lot of value to my house if resold. This work included: replacing waste lines under the house, replacing water lines including upgrading the intake from the city line at the street, replacing gas lines which were corroding, replacing my gas tank water heater with a tankless device, installing new overhead lighting in my living room, replacing and updating all electrical outlets and light switches, substantial electrical re-wiring and grounding of all accessible electrical wires, and other smaller improvements like smoke & CO1 detectors, and more.
All of this work was done to highest standards and completed very quickly, taking less than one month to finish. Sal and his team are very good at project management and were able to line up the work to constantly make progress. Also, while I've heard from neighbors that city permitting can really slow down work in Sausalito, I did not experience that issue with Sal & his team, and throughout the series of projects Sal's team performed, Sal was incredibly helpful providing me with real time updates and sharing the progress of his team's work, and regularly provided me with different options I could pursue with them, along with estimates, timelines, and pros / cons for every option.
Sal and his team provided me with excellent service and incredible work. I am extremely grateful to them for everything they did. And, I'm looking forward to hiring them for future projects on my house. I strongly recommend Altius Construction for services ranging from more aesthetic / design changes, to substantial structural changes to improve the functioning of any home. I would highly recommend Altius Construction for your construction needs. I hired them to remodel my condo including new flooring (heated tile), installation of a washer and dryer, installation of overhead lighting, and custom built closets. They did a pristine job and had creative solutions to issues we faced. For instance, having concrete ceilings, I thought it would be impossible to have overhead lighting but they created beautiful tray ceilings that hides all the wiring and gave my condo a sophisticated look. Everyone who has seen it has complimented it. They were also extremely helpful and efficient at navigating the city for permits as well as providing support to get the project approved with the HOA. The owner, Sal, is really easy to talk to and work with and provides honest, fair pricing so you know what to expect and are not surprised by change orders in the future. If you want quality work at a fair price, Altius Construction is the way to go.

We worked with Altius to renovate our backyard, including cleaning/waterproofing an old storage shed that is attached to our house. Our entire backyard was concrete, and they were able to demolish the concrete and remove it all within two days. Sal went over all of our options with us, from types of grass (including the differences between installing real and artificial), to the overall design of the space. He made several very helpful suggestions, including a walkway using paving stones, and a mulch area for outdoor furniture. We are still appreciative of his design advice - our backyard is perfect.
When it came to waterproofing the shed, Sal's team did a wonderful job of power washing the old concrete, and then using a sealant which improved not only the leakage issue but the overall look of the shed. At the first big rainstorm we discovered yet another leak, and Sal found that it was coming from another area entirely. The team fixed it within a day and we have had zero problems since, despite this latest very heavy rain season.
Working with Sal and his crew was a dream - they are on time, friendly, and completed the work within the time frame they quoted. Sal is very communicative and we continue to be thrilled with the work he and his team did. As someone who does not know much about home renovation projects, I really appreciated Sal's honesty and patience throughout the process. I would not hesitate to recommend Altius for any project.

Sal may be one of the best contractors that is least known and when other contractors see his work they are always impressed. Sal has excellent rapport with city building inspectors, they respect his skill, and he takes the time to do it right while at the same time he finds ways to keep costs down.
The peace of mind knowing that the work was done right and to required standards is well worth it. He and his crew are thoughtful and polite and unlike so many other contractors his bids are thorough. Where others seem happy to bid low just to get the job, Sal is honest from the get go and the other contractors often end up costing more in the end. I use Sal for work on my home and highly recommend him!
